MEETING MINUTES—JUNE 11, 2013 Attending: Dave Agricola (Pres.), Jenny Dennis (Bluebird Bakery), Ralph Hoop (Mayor), Pete Chronis (Reece-Campbell Inc), Beth Ecker (HWB), Diane Agricola (Village Gift Shop), Becky Regenold (Frame USA). Dave called the meeting to order and Jenny reported that our Chamber has $5319.87 in our bank account. Dave has not had a great response to his request for volunteers to meet quarterly with him and Village officials to discuss how both parties can work together. Dave and Ralph reported on the Village meeting to discuss commercial land use. This meeting was based on the results of the 2013 Land Use Survey (available on the Village website). Some of the businesses desired by residents have been tried here before and failed. There were complaints about the appearance of some storefronts (Henry the Hand, gas station), but none of those businesses are in violation of Glendale codes. Also discussed was that the Village Square is hard to find and what signage might help this problem. Diane asked about the signage codes and whether other businesses were following procedures for approval and whether those businesses even know that there is an approval required. Those in attendance urged Ralph to have the Village put together a packet for new businesses to outline any codes which are to be followed; the landlord would have responsibility to give the packet to a lessee. Becky remarked that the Chamber should add an introductory sheet to this packet. The Land Use meeting also discussed whether the Village is doing anything which inhibits businesses and whether it should be doing more to help businesses. These are topics for the quarterly meetings between the Chamber and the Village. Seven businesses joined our Chamber since the last meeting. Dave will see that they are added to the list of members on the website. A list of upcoming Chamber/Village events was reviewed. Loretta has offered to run with the Vintage Baseball event for Aug. This event was discussed at the last Chamber meeting and favored by all attending. Becky gave the concert dates which HWB offered as possibilities for the Chamber to have a presence there. Dave said we should go with the July 27 date. Becky will get an email out to Chamber members about what they might want to do to showcase their business at the concert. Two Street Fair applications have been received. The next meeting will be July 9 at the Cock & Bull Public House. Pete Chronis has generously offered to cover the costs of Chamber members at this meeting. |
