President John Smith called the meeting to order at 8:40am.
John addressed the chamber and reviewed the minutes from last month:
The street fair will be held on the 27th of September. The need to appoint a chairperson to organize the annual Glendale Street Fair was also discussed. Robin Thomas suggested a need for a set of guidelines to be placed on street fair participants. The plan also would call for a recruitment of desirable attractions and participants. John announced the proposal to design, to purchase and the placement of a series of signs that would allow visitors to Glendale to navigate the business district and surrounding community, will be discussed with Jenny Kilgore of the Glendale Council and Streets Planning Committee and with Ralph Hoop of the Glendale Heritage Preservation Society. Donna Wesselman suggested that a possible branding element for the signs would be to design them to coincide with the mural painted by Mr. Grueninger on the side of the Running Spot. The Chamber will contact Frank Russell, the author the Glendale 2000 plan, to discuss the best design to optimize business in Glendale with out sacrificing the sanctity of the surrounding community. Ms. Thomas would like to bring in an independent contractor to develop a 2008 plan that would take into account the changes made to the village and surrounding communities. This motion was further carried by the Chamber. She then explained how the 2008 vision would then be utilized in a marketing campaign to attract business and future residents to Glendale. The outcome of the 2008 plan would also define the allocation of funds from the state for further development of the square. The Chamber agreed that a united Glendale committee be formed to work with the writer of the 2008 plan. This committee would consist of Glendale Chamber members and representatives of the Glendale Village Council. Board members Susan Kruezmann and Bonnie Dooley again stated the need to establish a more efficient traffic flow in the square. Several options were presented: Development of the foot path that exists by the Depot, retooling the existing connector with Sharon Road and the opportunity to request a “quiet zone” to be placed on railway traffic traveling through Glendale. Jack Bueshner of the Glendale Heritage Preservation presented the Chamber with a copy of the Historic walking tour map. The map needs to be updated with new sponsors. Creation of a run/walk and a bike tour map was also discussed. These maps
would coincide with the map located at the end of the Depot. The Chamber would like the new map to be ready to pass out to visitors of the Glendale Car Show in June. A copy of the Glendale map would then be released to the Cincinnati North Group. This group has been formed to promote the new Sharonville Northern Lights business district and the surrounding business communities. A press release will also be created highlighting businesses and attractions in Glendale. The Chamber also discussed its support of the Northern Lights Plan and the need to work with the city of Sharonville to promote the businesses in Glendale.
The meeting adjourned at 9:45. Next months meeting will be announced soon.
