President John Smith called the meeting to order at 8:30am.
John addressed the chamber and reviewed the minutes from last month for approval. There were no changes and the minutes were approved.
Donna Wesselman provided a treasurers report stating that the chamber has over $4,000 in checking and $2,900 in savings. Checks were issued last month to cover some printing costs. There were also two new members to the chamber – Skyline Chili franchise of TriCounty and Maple Knoll Village/Life Sphere.
Donna and Robin Thomas reported on their meetings with potential development people. The more promising of the speakers they met with, David Pike, is a planning and zoning attorney. He is also a dynamic speaker that could help get people motivated for changes.
Mayor Hubbard reported that Glendale is a likely contender to win a grant for village improvement. The grand would cover $500,000 with the village paying $100,000 and another $60,000 to TEC for a total of $160,000 village responsibility. (An article can be found on Cincinnati.com regarding the grant. This money may not be used for a public restroom as some of the chamber members were hoping.
Changes will also need to go through the laws committee. Jenny Kilgore stated that she is able to take comments to the laws committee and will keep the chamber posted and updated.
There was need expressed to bridge the zoning and planning committees with the chamber and merchant desired.
For the next meeting, Mayor Hubbard will prepare a primer of ordinances and regulations for signage, etc.
Gail Denise gave a Street Fair update. There was a Street Fair meeting last week attended by Gail Denise, John Smith, Dave Agricola and Susan Kruezmann. The theme (as of now) is “Cherish the Old and Welcome the New). The committee is going to be talking to businesses directly to not only get booths for Street Fair, but also to get new chamber members. Robin Thomas will use her building storefront for a Glendale Art show. There
will also be a children’s section. Any suggestions are encouraged to Gail. A save-the-date postcard is also going to go out to everyone in the village.
Also of note, there was an article in the Sunday Cincinnati Enquirer regarding Robin Thomas’s building.
The next chamber meeting is scheduled for July 8, 2008 at 8:30 am at Glendale Heritage Preservation Depot Museum located at #44 Village Square
Respectfully submitted, Georgia Ricci
